33 years ago I studied at the University here in Trondheim. I was pregnant with my first child then, and so was one of my co-students, Inger. Inger and I became friends. Close friends the first years, more distant when Inger and her family moved from Trondheim. Some years later we both had four kids, and our contact consisted of Christmas letters, and a few meetings.
Yesterday I woke up to the wonderful news that Inger and Jan´s second child, Kjetil, had won a gold medal in The Olympics. There was an interview with Inger and Jan on television and we discovered they were in Trondheim, staying with their youngest child.
I wrote Inger a text on my cell phone, wanting to congratualte her, and also inviting her and Jan to stop by our house if they had time. A few minutes later I got a text back:
"Hi, this is Kjetil´s phone you have reached. Thank you for the congratulations......."
Ha, so now I have a message from a gold medalist on my phone. I am NOT going to delete it......for a long time!
Kjetil Jansrud, congratulations with your gold medal in down hill skiing yesterday.
I can´t believe you took the time to write back to an old friend of your mother. You are an hero!
