I am blogging from the hotel garden at La Fenice at des Artistes. The most charming, chic hotel you can imagine, closest neighbour to La Fenice opera house.
I was 14 when I first came to Venezia. With my parents and my three youngest brothers I had been driving all the way down from Trondheim in an old Volvo Amazon and a huge caravan. For two weeks we camped in Lido di Jesolo, and one day we took a daytrip into La Serenissima.
I never forgot it.
The next time I came back was in 2005, with Terje, on our silver honeymoon. Since then I've been back every year, at least once.
Every time I've stayed in Venezia I've stayed in appartments. In Cannaregio (you remember Nati House?), near Accademia or on Murano.
This time I wanted to try a hotel. I did an internet search, found La fenice des Artistes, wrote Mauro an email to ask what he knew about this hotel. He responded at once - you have chosen the best one!
La Fenice hotel is situated next door to the opera house, and lying in my huge bed I can almost hear the music - at least I love to think so. In former times musicans used to stay at the hotel, sometimes for weeks, and a whole wall is filled with photos and signatures of world famous singers.
A hotel for dreams, isn't it?
Can you imagine going to sleep under a Venetian candelier?
Here is a link to the hotel's website:

This is my post #2000. Can you imagine? I am not sure I can :-)
To celebrate I have a gift to give away, a beautiful totebag from La Fenice Hotel. Write a comment and let me know what you like most about Venezia (either from visiting live or through my blog), and I will pick a winner in a few days.
