My Year. Updated list of Living Life
Every month this year I will update my list of "Living Life" during my 50th year. I started to work on the invitations for my "big party" today and ordered personal stamps for the envelopes - yes, I'll use my self portrait.
*************************************************************************
I will be 50 this year, in a couple of months. And I've got my first pair of glasses.
Turning 50 - is it a new beginning, a totally turn around or is it just a keep going?
I am looking forward to being 50. I find myself looking at older women, thinking - they are filled with lived life, the lines in their faces and on their necks comes from having loved through decades. Sorrows and happiness, it is all about living the life you are given. Age is beauty.
Turning 50 means "keep going", and again I pray with St. Birgitta "God show me the way and give me the willingness I need to walk it."
Turning 50! Keep going also means that I will continue giving myself challenges! In my diary I make a list.....
************************************************************************
- travel to India (I bought the tickets yesterday. YES!)
- plant roses
- read a book in a foreign language
- say hello to a stranger ( a stranger is a friend you don't know yet)
- climb a mountain
- love
The list will grow throughout the year.............................
*******************************************************************************'
Update in January:
- Read Henrik Ibsen's plays.
Update in February:
- Buy a new paintbox before flying down to Italy for Easter.
I love your list. I totally agree it is wonderful to be 50 or in my case 54. I live life with wish to brighten someone's day each Morning!! Smiles

You made me laugh this morning. I remember when I turned 50. I was at work and one of my engineers wrote that he could tell me from experience that it didn't hurt. Another friend said "What a few more rings on a really good tree?" And then the piece de' resistance...one of my female engineers had her baby on my 50th birthday. I took half a day off, bought a baby ring and went to the hospital to see her. I was the first person outside of the family to hold her. That little girl is now a senior in high school, a lovely young woman with her head on straight, eager and kind and loving. Aging is one of those things you just learn to live with, I guess. LOL

Ardi, I alreday know that the wife of a cousin of mine will give birth to a little caesarean baby on my birthday.

Two or three great ideas here. One, your self portrait on a stamp!!! I assume this is not a postal stamp?? or can one order postal stamps in Norway. Anyway, i love this idea.
Two, reposting your previous posts about your birthday and adding on to them at the end. Brilliant. I enjoyed looking at them again. I loved the picture of your daughter at work painting and the fact that her paintbox is the first things she packs.
three: your list of wonderful challenges for your 50th year. You have inspired me to write out a list of challenges for myself. I had been feeling dull, frozen and life seemed uninteresting. Truthfully, I haven't been able to think of any challenges other than slogging through daily life one step at a time. But no, I do not have to keep myself in this slough of despond. I will write a list and begin.
Hurrah for your tickets to India.

Suki, yes, they are REAL postage stamps, for letters sent inside Norway. I will use them when I send out my invitations.

You are off to India, now that's the trip of a lifetime. What an exotic land. The Passage To India movie keeps running through my head.
As for turning 50, it is a great opportunity for reflection.
You have already made your want to do list so it's nothing but enjoyment after that!

Susan, I plan to enjoy life, also after 50 :-)

I'm enthused about your post. It reminds me to reflect and assess. I'm 51. :)
What really grabbed my eye was "travel to India." May I go along? I so long to go. But at $1500 for a ticket, it won't happen any time soon. :(

They say that life begins at 40. Well, it also begins at 50, and 60, and 70, and 80, and....
living fully, being truly alive has no age. xoxo

Have a wonderful year. I think women really come into their own in their 50s, and the important stuff reveals itself.
BTW, your blog is a blessing to so many people!

You will love being 50 Britt - I remember it well!! Even turning 60 wasn't bad - it's all a state of mind nothing to do with numbers. Just staying healthy, active, and creative (very important)is what keeps one going. Making the most of every day, despite the lines on the neck (oh yes they're there, and wanting more days, months and years because there is so much more to see and do......that's what life is all about and it is wonderful!
Glad you are planning your trip to India - I need to get going on my trip to France and possibly Spain.

I just had my 54th birthday last Friday! Spent the day telling everyone "Today's my birthday!" There's a certain enthusiasm that continues to grow within me with each birthday. May you embrace all that you are at each age!

Fifty is a wonderful age! I celebrated my 50th last year and I think I'm going to love my 50's even more than I did my 40's! Your glasses are fabulous! ~ Lynda xo

I am 55. My 40s were full of amazing things (seminary, ordination, etc.) -- but the 50s have really been wonderful. Trust me on this. They are much better than the 40s. It's as if the 40s were like turning 13 or 14 -- a difficult transition time. You truly come home in the 50s. CONGRATULATIONS!
