Saturday morning I woke up and just knew that it had to be the day to say goodbye to Christmas. Most years we keep Christmas in our hearts till "Tjuende dag jul" (20th Day of Chrismas, which is January 13). But the thousands of needles on the tree had had enough, and with a dying tree it didn't feel good any more.
Up from the basement storeroom came all the empty cardboard boxes, and my husband and I started the time consuming task. Ingrid was away for the week-end with her handball team, Marta was still sleeping.
A few hours later every sign of Christmas was securely stored away, the tree was carried outside and the ground floor was all crean and tidy.
Christmas in The House in the Woods is all red and green, and lots of these two colours. So when I stood there in the empty livingroom, well, it really felt empty with all the Christmas bric and brac gone, I knew that I craved some light colours. White and pink it had to be. White candles grouped here, pink candles grouped there. A huge bouquet of fresh tulips in pastel colours, the white hyasints which came too late for the holidays, a white hydrangea. I looked around and saw that the tables had to be bare for some time. No quilts, no table cloths, no handwoven runners.
I am no professional designer, though I've often dreamed of being one. I don't spend alot of money on decorating our home, though I'we often dreamed of a rich uncle with a never ending flow of money coming my way. I do love to follow the colours of the year though to make things beautiful around me. I like to keep my room tidy (well, don't show my husband these words, he might not agree......) and I like to decorate on a whim and on a budget.
Sunday night everything felt right in The House in The Woods. The white and pink sprinkled peace to the rooms, the guests had left leaving good memories. I made myself a huge mug of spiced tea, sat down in my favorite armchair, wrapped the memories of the day around me and took a long travel down reflection lane.

The right answer of the math game will be announced tomorrow. Some of you are pretty close. Clue - you can also draw the rope around a small marble, add one meter to the rope and see how far out from the marble the rope is then. You should get the same answer.........
