Sweet Days.
Marta will have her teeths braced in a few months, and the preparations have started. Yesterday she visited the dentist to pull out a tooth. She hates doing this, and to comfort her I stopped at the outdoor market in town on my way home from work and bought a huge basket of sweet cherries. The cherry prizes are sky high right now, before cherry season starts in Norway, so I had to dig deep, deep, deep in my pocket. Did it happily for my little girl.
Home from the dentist, still numb, Marta felt terrible sorry for herself. But she is tough and didn't have to rest long before she demanded action.
"Mum, can I make muffins?" She has a favorite recipe and her muffins have a taste from heaven. We have a saying in Norway: "All good things are three". First cherries and muffins, and then Marta's cell phone rang. Uncle Torodd wondered if she wanted to go bowling! Marta's smile was prizeless!
Summer vacations will soon be here. Ingrid has already finished her exams and is waiting for the results. The period of exams preparations is always a hard period, especially as the sun was doing its best to tempt her to come out and play. Ingrid used her breaks to clean her scooter, and let the sun accompanying her generously.
Marta has 8 days left of 5th grade. Then two months of vacation is waiting her.
My days are sweet with both girls around.

Worlds away..yet all families share similar moments...my granddaughter just got her braces put on! :) You have beautiful girls...not surprisingly!

Having teeth out is never much fun so I'm glad Marta had nice things happen to help her through it. Two of my children had braces so I know what it's like.Hope Ingrid's exam results are good, she looks pretty confident anyway, it'a a lovely photo.

Hi Rowan.
Ingrid is a winner, though sometimes she is taught life the hard way.

You must simply lock Ingrid in a room. The sight of her in a bikini is likely to drive boys and men to their not-very-best behavior....

Yes, you have two beautiful daughters and you are very lucky to still have them around, enjoy every moment with them as time flies so fast. But you know how to cherish sweet memories, that's beautiful.

Thanks Kitem.
I also have two very charming young men. But they have left the nest.........we miss them every day.

What lovely girls you have. I'm sure they'll be enjoying their summer break to the full...like making muffins--which look so good! I passed up on buying cherries the other day--they cost the stars right now! Will give it a couple weeks and see...Happy Summer Days! :o)

I hope Marta soon forgot her tooth extraction after she baked the yummy muffins and went out with her uncle.
We have two huge cherry trees in the garden, and soon there will be so many we will not know what to do with them..Too bad they cannot be mailed to you..!

Lovely daughters. Aren't teeth a bind! Just had my daughter and grandson staying here while my daughter had some exstensive dentistry done. Grandson not well so could not go to nursery so easier for Jane to work from here while we babysit, especially as her dentist is still in this area and not where she lives.
Yes allpics. from my garden.

You are right, cherry prizes are sky high - luxury - but I can not resist to buy some. Here in Oslo, the first I saw was priced at NOK 249 pr kilo - which should be something around USD 30 per lbs.
But as a premium for good behaviour at the Dentist - a muffin topped with a fresh cherry - Yippy.
I read your comment on my friend RennyBA's blog something that really made me curious. Are you a member here:

I payed 150 NOK for half a kilo :-(. Marta was thrilled though.
I am a member of Slow Food International, and we are working on establishing Slow Food Nidaros.
In my job I work for the bishop of Nidaros, and he talks alot about "kortreist mat" :-) You might have heard him?

What beautiful girls you have, Britt-Arnhild and I noted you said that two sons have grown. Tomorrow is my last day to work before my own two month summer break, and my own grandson graduates next week. At school today I watched the commencement rehearsal for the seniors.
We are in different countries, I know, but the basics of family life are the same for all of us--more or less.

Those braces will be off before you know it. L started even earlier than that, and it's a relief not to wear them into high school.
Lovely girls, both; great smiles, too, even before the braces!

Your daughters are so lovely. And Marta is becoming quite the chef - she can be your sous chef in the Blue Cafe! Luckily for us, cherries are in season here and quite inexpensive at the moment. I may even get ambitious and bake a cherry pie! :) xo

Really pretty young ladies (I dare not show those photos to my young men ;)
I hope that things go well with her braces, too!

I am wishing both your girls a happy summer! It is hard to wait for the results, isn't it?
Your girls look about the same years apart as mine (except mine are 22 and 28-1/2!) it's kind of fun having such different ages, isn't it??
Lidy

They are 6 1/2 years apart.....and Marta adores her big sister.

Oh la la, I can't grasp the idea that one day my girls will be wanting scooters! Ingrid looks thoroughly happy cleaning hers and getting a tan at the same time.
ps in reference to Corey's post on names, Britt was one of my favored girl names :)
